As
a kid I grew up in this remote place of West Virginia where there
weren't so many people or TV or things like this, so I spent a good
chunk of my time drawing/ painting/ imagining things. And I guess
that since the beginning, since I can remember, my interest has been
in the human story. This is the thing that sends me day to day, just
knowing about other people. I love to see them, their pain and their
joy, their living and their dying. There are stories unfolding around
me all of the time, whether belonging to me or to others, and I want
to document them. If I can, then I feel like I have done something
worthwhile, and if I cannot, I guess it may be something lost to
time. My work is about the things that have happened to me/ the things
that I know/ the people
that surround and affect me. At times, they might say or do a thing
that keeps churning in my head until it sees itself in a painting.
They are my strongest persuasions, what they do, their
reaction or mine. I show these stories in cut paper and paint. I
guess I stick my heart to my sleeve. I was born in 1979 and today
I live in the same sort of small place that I was raised, but in
southern Virginia. I have a bachelor of fine arts in drawing and
a minor in art history from Radford University.
